Today I added to the office manual I have created to include a new service and position within my company. It took me much of the day, but I can say it was time WELL spent. It was an investment in both my new employee and my company. I've created step by step instructions for this department so that the new employee I have will feel confident that she knows what is expected of her and so that each client we service will receive oustanding service. I confess I have detailed instructions for just about everything my company does, from answering the phones to closing out a file. While to some this may seem a bit neurotic, it's actually really liberating. I no longer have to tell my team the same thing over and over or worse yet think I've told them and forgotten. We are a well oiled machine and I know it's thanks to the systems we utilize.
I didn't think of this idea, it came to me after reading the eMyth Revisited by Michael Gerber for the 1st time years ago. Since them I've read it twice and own the CD and have listen to it several times. If you are looking for a way to take your business to the new levels, try systematizing it. If you haven't already read this book start there for inspiration.
